Dr. Paul K. Lerer is a board-certified gastroenterologist who treats a broad scope of general gastroenterology problems. Over the course of his career, he has developed a particular interest in inflammatory bowel disease, liver disease, celiac disease, and the endoscopic screening of gastrointestinal cancers.
Dr. Lerer graduated from Yeshiva University with a BS in Pre-Medical Studies and received his MD from Mayo Medical School, of the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He completed his internship at The Boston City Hospital and his internal medicine residency at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center. He also completed a two year gastroenterology fellowship at Mount Sinai Medical Center.
Dr. Lerer has been in practice at Medical Diagnostic Associates in Westfield and Summit, New Jersey since 1985. He is an attending gastroenterologist at Overlook Medical Center of Summit, New Jersey and the GastroSurgery Center of Mountainside, New Jersey.
Dr. Lerer also serves as a preceptor of medical students and physician assistant students interested in gastroenterology and endoscopic procedures. He has mentored students from Seton Hall University and Rutgers New Jersey Medical School throughout the past decade. In his free time, he enjoys swimming and cycling.
